In this way, OIRC functions as a critical component of the larger institutional infrastructure which works to ensure that the University can meet its responsibilities to foster a culture of integrity, responsibility, civility, and professionalism and address concerns regarding failures to act in accordance with related expectations. ## How Concerns Related to Research, Creative Activities, Scholarly, and Faculty Professional Misconduct are Handled at UMD - **Research, Creative Activities, and Scholarly Misconduct** — Find out how OIRC handles allegations that a member of the UMD community may have engaged in fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other practices that erode the integrity of our scholarly work (*i.e.*, research and creative activities). - **Faculty Professional Misconduct** — Find out how OIRC handles allegations that a UMD faculty member may have engaged in professional misconduct. **A Note on OIRC's Purview** — The scope of OIRC's purview is limited to the review of concerns that fall under the policies identified in the sections above. OIRC does not address: (1) forms of misconduct that are handled by other institutional offices (*e.g.*, allegations related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct, which are handled by [the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct](https://ocrsm.umd.edu/), and allegations related to student conduct and academic integrity, which are handled by [the Office of Student Conduct](https://studentconduct.umd.edu/)); or (2) concerns related to the professional conduct of staff.
