Research Integrity Officer

Aliza Sacknovitz, Ph.D., is the Research Integrity Officer in the Office of Integrity and Responsible Conduct (OIRC) at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). She serves as UMD’s institutional official responsible for administering the university’s policy and procedures for addressing allegations of research/scholarly misconduct and ensuring compliance with federal regulations and sponsor requirements governing allegations of research misconduct.

Prior to joining UMD, Aliza served as Investigative Scientist, Senior Investigative Scientist and ultimately Deputy Director of the Research integrity and Administrative Investigations Division of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Inspector General (OIG). At NSF OIG, Aliza both oversaw and conducted investigations of research misconduct, violations of human subject research, conflicts of interest, peer review violations, whistleblower retaliation, personnel misconduct, grant fraud, and other violations of rule, regulation, or policy. 

Aliza received her B.A. in Linguistics and Journalism & Mass Media from Rutgers University, and her M.S. and Ph.D. both in Linguistics from Georgetown University. Aliza is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a graduate of the Senior Executive Fellows program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
